Framed Crate

This crate ended up looking a little fancy, but it was made from an unknown wood from the inside (frame and drawer rails) of a chest of drawers.  And pine from a bed end. It is roughly the size of a milk-crate (300mm³).

Adding the lapped dovetails on the base supports was a bit of a mistake, as this made assembling and disassembling more complicated.  It will add strength to stop the bottom splaying though...

Glued together in stages.  Added glue to just some inner joints on the sides, and then assembled so that they dried in the correct positions. Then disassembled and glued the next set of joints and repeated.  This was very fiddly but meant the glue-up wasn't too rushed and everything mostly fitted all the way through.

This also meant that the side frame (H pieces) could be planed/sanded flush before inserting into the outer frame, which would have got in the way as the sides are inset from the main cube.

The final result has a nice contrast of wood colours and grain directions.
