Tool chest

Built roughly following the Anarchists Toolchest pattern, but made from a reclaimed bed frame so the dimensions/timber choices were a bit constrained.

The sides were glued up from bed slats.  Couldn't avoid knots, but kept them away from the joints as much as possible.

The box is pretty big, but still a little smaller than the ideal dimensions (mostly in the width as there isn't quite enough room for the trays).

Missed a few photos as adding the skirts, bottom, lid etc was fun and went quickly.

Kids helped out with the painting

Crammed most of the tools in, trays are made from pretty random wood.  Runners for the trays were also made from what I had on hand that will hopefully wear well.

Rearranged everything and repurposed the old chest.

And a really good tip I got from somewhere was to stick a block of camphor in the tool chest.  It is supposed to leave a rust-preventing layer on the tools as it evaporates and condenses on the metal.  No idea if that's true, but it smells really good every time the chest is opened.
